XBOX LIVE

XBOX LIVE is an online multiplayer gaming and digital media delivery service which debuted on the original XBOX in 2002 and upgraded with the launch of the XBOX 360 in 2005.
It allows millions of subscribers to communicate in game via the system's built in ethernet connection with broadband internet service.
The ability to communicate with anyone in the world helped take gaming a step up into a more social, mainstream arena. Aside from chatting in game, either through text or voice, players can access the marketplace and download the lastest game content, TV shows, movies, and more.

  1. I'm an xbox live user and love it. It's crazy how before we needed to go the video store to rent a game out for a cost and now were able to download any game and sample for no expense. Another advantage to xbox live is that there is less lag when playing against others online. I think this is because there is a fee for the online each month(Not much at all), and their able to connect each player through a quicker server. I'm not really sure how it works, but I know there is a big difference from the online on xbox and other competitors like PS3.

  2. Xbox live used to be one of my favorite things to do. Being able to connect with other users from all over the world is absolutely incredible. You can talk hands free, and play a game with someone from Europe.

  3. The NXE . . .

I've got mixed feelings about this thing.

First and foremost I think the new update is hideous. Most egregious is the default view. It's replaced a default blade containing one ad and functional menu items like access to a friends list with a row of giant ads in the spotlight category. Really not happy about that. Oh, and themes are practically shot due to the large featureless circle that has to dominate the bottom of the screen and the giant menu boxes for everything that dominate the middle of the screen. I feel sorry for any poor bastard who paid for one of these.

But! It is a hell of a lot faster, has a neat friends list (though I haven't found a way to skip through it yet, gotta scroll - but at least that's fast), and the guide button menu is pretty bitchin' now. It also loads faster (though not as fast as the rest. Which is mind boggling.) and is fantastically minimal. Oddly the guide button menu completely emasculates the NXE because it's better in just about every way. I'd definitely use it as my theme.

Finally, I'm actually using Netflix now. $9 a month for one dvd at a time, with the added ability to stream some part of their library through the 360? Yes please.

  4. I have XBOX 360 and i use it to play people online. It's fun and i love the fact that you never know what the other player is going to do. With computer generated players which are common in the off-line versions you can kind of expect what they will do. Its also fun because you get to play people from all over the country. The diversity of play also varies with online play, because you can download maps and other types of playing features. Another reason why the diversity of play varies online is because you have tousands of diffrent people all with diffrent skill levels and it makes for a smile when you come out on top.

  5. This is definitely a great advancement for netowrking gamers. i never got into xbox live or had a chance to use it. Unfortunately, to communicate and interact with others, the size of this virtual community is the size of the comsumers that could affort this expensive product. I unfortunately could not. I believe, like me, many still are attached to the conventional internet for networking and communication but for game trading and uploading this technology is amazing. It provides a private gateway for users away from all the clutter of the world wide web.

  6. I have never used Xbox live personally but I’ve watched others play. I’m not much of a gamer but I think it is cool because it brings a whole different element to gaming. I guess it like the arcade culture of the 70s. When the home game systems came out it took always that socialization element and Xbox live bring it back. How can they top this?

  7. Xbox live will ruin regular Xbox for anyone who has ever tried it. Its so much fun playing games with real life people instead of the computer all the time. I've definitely wasted many hours playing Xbox live!

  8. I think that gaming systems like ps3 and xbox 360 are all a work of art. They can be seen as an example of how technology evolved. And there are many different aspects of how they evolved, with the better graphics the speed, etc.
