Brain Machine Interface

Communication comes in many forms and isn't limited to speech or writing. What if you just think about what you wanted to do instead? Too lazy to reach for the remote? Just a thought could change that. How about thinking of what you wanted to type? Sure would make writing essays easier. Although lots of frivolous purposes could arise out of Brain Machine Interface Technology, some researchers are hoping that the technology would help people with disabilities to control robotic limbs to help perform everyday tasks.

  1. This robot has been around for years, I remember it wasn’t all high tech like it is today but I definitely think it’s the start to what we should expect in the future.

  2. I don’t think I like this innovation. How does this technology distinguish a day-dream or a fleeting, passing thought from when you actually expect technology to take action? For instance, say its raining out and your just sitting around and think about the windows of your car. The next thing you know, the interior of your car is soaked.

  4. I think this is so interesting. I know stuff like that has been around for a while now but, once perfected, there seem to be so many possibilities. I mainly think of how this could help the disabled. Just simply not having to get up to find the remote, change the temperature, or answer the phone could make life so much easier for people with trouble walking. Also, I'd like to think this could create some pretty awesome video games in the future (which there has been some work on already).

  5. I'm not sure I would want anything essentially reading my mind. I also really don't think we need any of these technologies. You can't get off the couch to turn on the A/C? Or put down the groceries in order to open your trunk. C'mon....

  6. Wow this would be great for a disabled person. It can even work for elderly that can't do much because of illnesses that the person might have. I don't think it would be good for a person that does not need it because it only means to become lazy. It would make life easier but at the same time lazier.

  7. This is awesome i want a robot that does thing purly by my thinking. Some day soon it will be possible to live your life completely in virtual reallity. This proposition has profound consiquenses for the social reality that is life.

  8. Mind reading certainly pressed up against teh fence of ethics.. invasion of privacy and so fourth. But innovation is innovation and a use can be found.

  9. They are trying to implement mind-control technology into some forms of "games" now. I can't imagine a world where everything is driven by the mind, but I can see many stationary devices such as a computer or some sort of thought-to-text/speech devices becoming more popular in that field.

I don't know how society would take being so hands-off some devices, such as a car. A simple distraction could throw your mind off and possibly ruin a simple task.

  11. I saw that thing dance with Ellen Degeneres on her talk show.
I'm wondering if the interface could be used for something like people with prosthetic limbs.

  12. That is absolutly mind blowing! I can really see how this type of technology will be helpful for Paraplegics.

  13. Not only does this seem scary to think that a robot could read your mind but it also seems unecessary. What happens if you have ADD? You would probably confuse your robot! As far as I'm concerned, I'll pass on the mind reading robots! As far as helping individuals with prosthetic limbs...As long as its consistent in their movements
